Explore The Concept Of Risk Through Discussion

What is the Risk Commission?

The Risk Commission is an RSA project, created under the ‘encouraging enterprise’ manifesto challenge and chaired by Sir Paul Judge, that aims to examine and contextualise risk in our modern society.

We hope this website will provide a meeting ground for experts and lay people alike who have an expertise or a general interest in risk and its discourse. We intend to facilitate a dialogue for all; the experts, the public, the policy makers and the media.

Risk and Old Age

Following on from the Risk Commission's successful work on childhood, the Commission now proposes a second report looking at Risk and Old Age.

We live in a rapidly aging population. We are living much longer and a greater proportion of us are old. The number of people aged 65 years and over is expected to rise by 60% to over 15 million in 2031 when they will comprise 22% of the population. Over the same period the number of people over 100 from will rise from 10,000 to 1 million.

This demographic change has a number of well rehearsed consequences in policy areas such as health, social care, employment, immigration and pensions. Equally as more people get older, we will need a greater focus on dealing with the risks associated with old age.
